In 2008, I began working in the NHS with children from 6 months – 16 years of age in all areas of speech, language and communication (also with children with eating and drinking difficulties). I worked in preschool and mainstream settings with children with a wide range of different needs. I gained extensive experience working with children in specialist settings. I am passionate about supporting the development of functional communication skills to allow children and young people to be able to advocate for themselves. As part of this, I advocate a ‘Total Communication’ approach considering Makaton signing, use of visual support and AAC alongside promotion of spoken communication.
In 2022, l began working independently and this has allowed me to focus more closely on the therapeutic input I am able to provide children by allowing more time to build connection to ensure that therapy is most effective.
